There are hundreds of reasons the Alexandria area is a great place to visit in the winter. Hundreds of lakes to fish? We have it! Hundreds of fish to catch? We have them…but actually getting them is up to you! Hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails to ride? We have it (366 miles to be exact)! How about Ski Hills, Snowboarding, Cross Country Skiing, Ice Skating, great Dining, Shopping and Lodging? Yep, WE HAVE IT ALL! Find great suggestions on our new Winter Guide page.
Many anglers are already having good luck on the ice. You can always stay in the loop with our fishing blog. Our latest blog post goes over the ice conditions and what’s biting. Plus, if you like convenience, there are options in the area to simply rent the equipment you need including heated ice houses! Find this information on our Winter Activities page. *Always remember to use extreme caution when venturing out onto early lake ice, and keep in mind how sporadic warm weather may affect the conditions. *
When talking about snowmobiling, there is no doubt the Alexandria area is a sought after destination for time on the sled. There are almost 400 miles of groomed trails within Douglas County alone, with many connecting to other trail networks throughout the state. They pass through many areas and towns so food, gas and fun is never too far off the path. Although these trails are not open yet (as of mid December), please visit the website of the Douglas Area Trail Association for open status and more information. In the meantime, prepare for your adventure by getting a copy of the Official 2015 Trail Map and the proper safety certifications you may need (click here for information on safety certifications). Both of these resources are available at our office’s NEW LOCATION at 324 Broadway Street, or call 320-763-0102 if you live out of town and we will send them to you. Also check our Winter Activities page for information on snowmobile rentals!
