February radio shows at Lakes Area Radio Theatre are all about people.
What’s the best way to get over a good-looking, island-hopping, not-so-reliable boyfriend? Older sister Justin knows, and strongly encourages Annie to move on. Annie’s not so sure. But after much well-intentioned sisterly encouragement, she finally agrees to give it a go and ends up on a date she’ll not soon forget.
Author: Sheri Ellis: Sheri is a brand-building writer from the Twin Cities. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, she’s passionate about family and friends on both sides of the border. She’s also serious about having as much fun as possible, both at work and in life.
‘SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH O. HENRY’
This one-act romantic comedy presents adaptations of three short stories by O. Henry within a larger structural context. All involve the vagaries of young love and all are set in New York’s Madison Square Park, one of O. Henry’s favorite neighborhood haunts in the productive decade before he died in 1910. O. Henry appears as an informal park host and occasional actor in the stories. Many of the play’s societal concerns — homelessness, for example, and the growing disparity between rich and poor – remain social problems today.
Author Roy Proctor: Mr. Proctor wrote his first play in 2012 after retiring from a 30-year career as the staff theater critic on the two daily newspapers in Richmond, Va. Since then, he has completed 94 short plays – 55 minutes down to one minute — that have been fully produced, accorded staged readings and/or produced as podcasts more than 200 times in 24 American states and in 10 countries on four continents. His plays have been fully produced on the stage in a Pacific-to-Pacific arc extending from Los Angeles to Chicago, New York, London, Stuttgart, Bangalore, Misawa (Japan) and Sydney. Proctor writes all kind of plays but specializes in short-play adaptations of classic short stories in the public domain, especially the stories of Anton Chekhov. He lives in Richmond and is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
