WHAT: Peregrine Falcons in the Midwest: Celebrating Success…Continuing the Work – Jackie Fallon

Jackie is the Minnesota State coordinator for peregrine falcons and the Vice-Chair of Field Operations for the Midwest Peregrine Society. Since 1988, Jackie has been involved with the peregrine recovery program, where she had a “one on one” with a peregrine falcon named Maverick. Since then, she has assisted the project with field observations throughout the Midwest, most often in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota. In 2005, Jackie was asked to assume primary responsibilities for the Minnesota peregrine falcon monitoring and management program, and continues to coordinate all aspects of peregrine recovery and field work at over 50 nesting territories in the state. She has a BS in biology and Animal Behavior from Cornell College, and currently is employed at the Lake Superior Zoo,, where she focuses on recovery programs for endangered species.

Jackie will be giving us an in-depth look at the history of peregrine falcons. From their decline in the mid 1900’s, through their restoration in the eastern portion of the US, and more specifically in the Midwest, and into their recovery and de-listing and the challenges that the species face in the 21st Century. The peregrine story is one to be celebrated, and a reminder of our past and what we need to do for many other species.

Jackie will also bring several live falcons in addition to a presentation, so don’t forget to bring your camera.
