DESCRIPTION:The Holiday Train is a great way to get into the festive spirit. It’s about 1\,000 feet in length with 14 brightly decorated rail cars. Each one is lit with hundreds of thousands of LEDs and holiday designs celebrating the spirit of the giving season.\n12/16 Glenwood at 20 15 Street Northeast (10:15 a.m.)\n12/16 Alexandria at 8 Avenue & Nokomis (11:45 a.m.) \nDepending on the day\, visitors can enjoy free musical performances Lanco and Tiera Kennedy or American Authors and Pynk Beard. Any food or cash donations will also benefit the local community. \nPlease note: You don’t actually get to ride the Holiday Train. It’s more of a pop-up concert experience. Or as the railway says in its FAQ page\, “A typical Holiday Train event goes something like this: The train arrives and pulls to a safe stop in front of the crowd. The stage door lowers and the band opens with its first song\, followed by a brief presentation with the local food bank officials and other dignitaries on stage. Once the presentation is done the band resumes the show\, singing a mix of traditional and modern holiday-themed songs\, and popular original songs. Sign-up for both the regular count and feeder count needs to be done by the end of the day on Friday\, December 26\, 2025. Come enjoy a great day counting birds and meeting some great people! See below for the full details. \nMeet at the Visitor Center at 7:30am for assignment of count areas and a quick refresher lesson on bird identification and counting techniques. You do not have to be an expert birder to participate in this exciting and rewarding event\, as we will place experienced birders with less experienced ones\, so come enjoy the day. We also will take those willing to count birds at their feeders if you can’t make it to the event\, just call the park to get your feeder count instructions. \nTake part in the 126th Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Explore the Alexandria count area in search of our winter bird residents. Stay a few hours or spend the whole day. Information collected is used to track migration patterns and changes in winter bird species abundance throughout North America. \n***NOTES: This program does require some outside time\, so dress appropriately for outdoor winter conditions.
