We went from driving trucks and wheel houses last weekend to needing tall boots to walk on in only 3 days. The sun is very powerful this time of year. Couple that with 70deg temps and it doesn’t take long to melt some ice. We still have a lot of ice to melt, but I’m confident that most anglers with a desire to ice fish will still be able to get out this weekend. The ice is quite thick out in the middle but the edges are melted away making it a bit tricky to get on the ice. A pair of boots should be all you need to get on the ice this weekend but after that it’ll be day by day. I expect this weekend will be last call for most ice anglers in our area.Fish are still biting well. I was out Wed. evening and quickly found fish. There was crappie and bluegill suspended in 16-20 foot of water. They were eager to take our offering and we quickly iced 40+ Bluegill and 30+ crappie. It doesn’t get much nicer than catching fish in a t-shirt after the long winter we’ve had.Soon we’ll be fishing from a boat catching slab panfish. I’ll keep you informed as we make our way to open water. Good luck this weekend!
