As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s time to plan a special afternoon (or entire weekend) to honor the incredible women in our lives! Whether you live around the area or are wanting to plan a special weekend away – Alexandria is the perfect gathering spot. We’ve put together a list of things to do in Alex to make the most out of your day with Mom.
Brunch
Start the celebration early by treating Mom to a delicious meal at one of our local restaurants. Head downtown to Travelers Inn for a wonderful breakfast and a cup of coffee. If you are interested in lunch with mimosas, check out Lure Lakebar for a beautiful lakeside dining experience.
On Sunday, May 12, La Ferme is hosting a special Scandinavian inspired Mother’s Day Brunch (reservations required). Or choose a lakeside buffet style brunch at The Depot Smokehouse. This is just to name a couple of great places for a bite to eat. Click here to see the full list of local dining.
After brunch, take a leisurely stroll downtown to browse the antique shops and unique boutiques that Alexandria has to offer. Saturday, May 11 is the Alexandria Farmers Market Opening Day at Big Ole Park from 10-2. Saturday is also the second day of the Alexandria Spring Boutique Crawl! There are 16 boutiques participating and every single one of them is offering a sale. You and Mom don’t want to miss this! Grab a cup of coffee at Deja Bleu House of Coffee or Common Ground Coffee House for the boost of energy you need for all the shopping you’re about to do.
Mother’s Day lasts all weekend long at Bold North Cellars. They have put together a floral wall for the picture-perfect backdrop so you can capture these memories. On Saturday, May 11th you can build your own floral bouquet with Wild Bloom Flower Truck or get a matching permanent jewelry piece from Perpetual Jewelry. Both vendors will be on the grounds on Saturday, May 11 from 11-4. That’s not all… You can register to attend a painting class from 2-4:30 in the taproom loft. There will also be live music from 2-5 in the winery and 6-9 in the taproom!
Head out with Mom on Sunday, May 12th to enjoy Sizzle Food Truck specials, a brunch pizza, mimosa flights made with locally pressed Nice Juicery juice, and $5 beers for moms in the brewery. From 11-4, Succ It Up Buttercup will be there for a fun, creative self-paced planting experience! They provide an easy-to-follow step-by-step process and have you on your way to creating a beautiful plant arrangement! Live music starts at 1pm. Other Adventures
For the adventurous mom, Alexandria offers plenty of activities to enjoy. Hit the trails for a scenic hike through beautiful landscapes of the nearby parks. Alexandria can be both eventful and relaxing. Pack a picnic and head to one of Alexandria’s lakes for an afternoon of relaxing and snacks while listening to the sounds of waves and nature (weather permitting of course.) Just in case you don’t have enough ideas to do with Mom, Studio Vino is hosting a paint pouring class on Saturday, May 11th from 2:30-4:00.
