Enjoy the night sky and walk by lantern light at Glacial Lakes State Park on Saturday, February 10, 2024
Drop by any time between 6 and 9 p.m. for hiking as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.
The .75 to 1.5-mile trail starts at the group camp area and is suitable for beginner-level hikers of all ages. Special guests from the Glacial Lakes Astronomy and Stargazing Society (GLASS) will be on hand to point out a few neat stars and constellations that are in view. This event will be a hike at this time due to lack of snow. The trail will be determined as the date gets closer for safety and based on conditions. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Good traction footwear or ice cleats are helpful for uneven ground and snow-covered hills.
The evening wraps up with a cup of hot apple cider, cookies, and a crackling bonfire.
Save time: Get vehicle permits online before you go.
A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas. The DNR recommends buying permits in advance at the state park vehicle permit website (mndnr.gov/permit) or on the Yodel app. The cost is $7 per day, or $35 for a year-round permit. Candlelight events held at state trails do not require a vehicle permit.
